Keith Holland & Associates - Award Winning Eye Care

What is a visual assessment?

The assessment is broadly divided into three parts.

1) Detailed History - Initially a detailed history will be compiled, based on our discussions and upon a questionnaire you will be asked to return before the appointment.

2Clinical Tests - Secondly, a comprehensive range of clinical tests will be carried out to learn how the eyes function, to look at perceptual and motor skills, and to probe visual development. These tests go well beyond those normally carried out in an eye examination.

3) Results & Treatment - Finally, the results of the assessment will be discussed with you and your child, and we will then explain treatment options to you and, where appropriate, start you on appropriate therapies. A detailed written report is normally provided after the appointment.

What age groups are examined?

Children aged between 7 and 18 are best suited to longer assessments, however we do undertake shorter assessments for younger children and for adults.

How long does it take and do I stay?

The assessment lasts for around two hours, we then recommend patients take a break and return for dispensing and therapy demonstrations which may take at least another thirty minutes.

We do like both parents to be present if possible during the assessment - it is a rare and valuable opportunity to observe your child working for a long period. Refreshments are provided.

Younger siblings can often be distracting, so it is helpful if arrangements can be made for their care during this time.

If you are intending on parking in town we say put at least 4 hours on the parking meter!
